Beastly Character Development

Title: Beastly by Alex Flinn

Kyle before the curse.
Kyle is the main character of Beastly. In the beginning of the story we learn that he's the popular boy at school. He's cute, rich and he gets everything he wants. The downfall of this "perfect" boy is that he's a total jerk. There's one girl at their school that is a scholarship student. She's not the prettiest girl in the class and she's made fun of for being smart. Kyle targets her but instead of being a straight up jerk, he plays a trick on her. The boy asks her to a dance as a joke and she accepts the invitation. He later on shows up at the dance with his girlfriend for the aim was to humiliate the girl at the dance. However, it turns out that this nerdy girl is actually a witch and she puts a spell on Kyle. He becomes a beast to make him as ugly as he is on the inside.

After becoming a fuzzy beast and having no luck on finding a cure, his father buys him a home so he isn't seen by anyone. He starts reading a lot and I think that because of he reading, he becomes m
ore educated and somewhat mature. His reading is caused by a girl that he develops a crush on. She's a quiet girl that loves to read. In order to get her to like him, he starts reading even more.

I think that a lot of the character development is caused by this girl and also the fact that he can't be seen by anyone. Since he used to be popular, he always went out but when he's alone he does new things. By the end he is a kind, smart and thoughtful boy.

  1. I liked how you included a bit of background information on the character and the story line. Is this book part of a series? Does this book focus a lot on bullying? The character Kyle has a traditional change because she changes from a hateful person to a positive/happy character. Your main character seems to be similar to the character Dawson in my book in which they both change their heart. Great Blog Post.
