Poetry Reflection

There are many different kinds of poetry that can effect people in one or two ways. Poetry is a big part of my life and I grew up with being a fan of poetry. I think many people like poetry, like people like music. Lyrics are poems, too! This year I have learned that poetry can come in different forms. While poetry is a genre, poetry itself has various genres.

Poetry can belong to anyone. Everyone has different tastes and different ways to express themselves but for everyone, poetry can be their outlet. I know that it is not easy for everyone to write poetry but at the end of the day, poetry is always going to be there for them, as strange as that may sound. Not everyone’s poetry is explicit. They may write something beautiful that has a serious meaning behind it. Other people are very straight forward when writing poetry. My favorite kind of poetry is the kind that you have to really look at to see what the author is thinking and the kind of poetry that you have to interpret.

Life experiences can really affect and inspire a poet. Most poets write from their thoughts and personal experiences. They can be inspired by great events or they can be so upset about something, they decide to write about that. An example of a poem in which the author was upset about something is “The Names.” “The Names” is about nine-eleven, which is a tragic day in history. Sometimes poetry is not always about a specific event but about a person. A common thing that poets do is write a cute poem about someone they love. They describe how they are and they say how happy they make them. Another kind of poetry can be about sad events in someones life or something or someone that makes that writer angry and they have that to just let it all out. This is usually with heavy rockstars but I think it also happens with rappers. Even though the lyrics in rap are really bad, it’s a form of poetry that they’re venting their feelings towards. Poetry is for anyone and can be written in any form they please.
