Inspired by chapter six of Bluefish by Pat Schmatz
okay
why up so early, kid?
I felt like it
bad attitude
drunk
I’ve been 30 days sober
congratulations
tell me when you stop smoking
tell me when you stop being a smart ass
i can’t stand you
you ruin my day, I think
you ruin my day, I say out loud
we’ll never get along
all you care about is a stupid dog
all you care about is lighting up that shrunk up log
we don’t care about anything because of each other
yet there are a lot of things
too personal to say out loud
I actually care about a lot of things
I’m just bad at this
I can’t live like this
change
I’m not too good with change
living in a new town
we’re only human
it’s true
and I’m just a kid
a kid that pisses me off
thanks
Travis
Grandpa
Ha, I like the left side of the poem the most. That guy is sooo mean! I luv it!
ReplyDeleteGood poem. I like how you but the characters names at the otto so it gives the poem a little more affect, to me at least. Good job! I really liked the message behind the poem and the conversation the characters are having is interesting.

ReplyDeleteThis is a great poem because you describe the character's emotions in the book and what inspired you write this poem. I liked how you picked out funny moments from the book in order to write a funny/serious poem. You used a lot of rhyming which made the poem even better. Great Poem Post.
ReplyDeleteI commented on Carlos, Diego, and Leanna's blogs!
ReplyDeletewow great blog post this week! I really liked how the two characters don't really like eachother, but to me in a way they're very similar. The way you set up this poem is amazing! One of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you showed the way that they didn't like each other, but at the end it seems as if they have a grudging respect for one another. In the poem you show how one another feels not only towards one another, but on the inside which I believe makes a poem real. Your grammar for each character shows their personality's a lot, too. I'm not sure if you did it on purpose or on accident, but whatever the case it was a good idea. Nowadays teens don't really have good grammar and Travis having bad grammar shows his personality. You can see that Grandpa doesn't really care either, but sometimes he does. Great blog!
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that Bluefish seems to be possibly an emotional book. I enjoyed how I was able to imagine the grandfather-grandson relationship in my head, which is a great thing. Beautiful job on your blog!
