Prompt: Are the characters realistic (do they seem like they could be read people)? Why
or why not?
Evaluate the quality of the writing.
I have finished reading Cut by Patricia McCormick. Cut is about a girl named Callie. Callie deals with self-harm issues. Due to the cutting, she is interned in a rehabilitation center. While she's in there, she refuses to speak and doesn't try to get better. There are other characters in the rehab center dealing with other issues like eating disorders and drug abuse. The characters do seem realistic because unfortunately there are a lot of people who deal with issues like these. Though the thing about Callie is that she doesn't seem realistic. She has no personality and I didn't like her until the end of the book.
In the end of the book, she runs away from the rehab center and stops at a Dunkin' Donuts. There, she calls her dad to take her back. As she ran away she realized that she does want to get better. When she goes back, she is finally open about what goes on in her mind and tells the therapist. That's why I didn't like her, probably. The therapist is there to help her and she doesn't open up when there's people who actually CARE. There's many people who struggle and they don't have anyone to talk to or anything. She just bothers me and I don't know.
This story is very well written. Patricia McCormick is a great author. Cut is written in full detail and displays how the characters are feeling in full detail, also saying the character's actions. I believe that Cut is a well written book, with a unique plot line, but some of the characters can be bothersome.
This blog is really interesting! I like how you described what happened very well, and yo made me want to read the book. I feel bad for people who self harm themselves because it means they aren't happy, which makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteCool blog post this week! I agree with Amelia that the way you described things made me want to read the book. I also notice that you read a lot of books! :O But that's good, plus you have a great taste in books! :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree anymore about your blog. But, is it possible that maybe sometimes people don't want "help" because maybe it makes them feel insane, like they're a mental patient who might never be the same. I feel that in some cases you are correct and I loved your blog! I plan on reading the book Cut soon.
ReplyDeleteThis blog was great! I liked how you told us what the story was about in a well written form. I also like how you added music in the background! Anyway, you made me want to read the book now! great job!
ReplyDeleteI commented on Amelia, Leanna, and Gianna's blog!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed how you explained it all very well. I semi-agree with you on how Callie is towards how she doesn't see how people do care about her. At the same time though, she doesn't see that because before the situations she was in just brought her down enough for her to see that nobody is really there for her. I really love this book because there are possibilities of this happening and having people read this is to show that people are really suffering out there. It's like to wake them up and make them realize that this is actually happening to people with them suffering in silence. You did an outstanding job on your blog this week!
ReplyDeletePatrica McCormick is a great author who writes about a variety oa topics! Have you read her other book Sold?
