Just Listen Week of: 10/20

Book: Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
Prompt: Prediction/Book Title
Comments: Autumn, Marisa, Leanna

This week I am reading Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. I just started reading the first two chapters of the book. So far we are introduced to the main character, Annabel. In the beginning of the story there is a flashback into the time that she was doing commercials. I think that maybe since she is a model and does commercials, she may be popular at school. Continuing, there's a flashback into the summer after 6th grade. She is with her best friend and her sisters at the community pool. She seems like an average girl that has friends and is sociable. Then it is present time; sitting through lunch is hell for Annabel, she's all alone and her ex best friend calls her mean names. What happened to all that she had?

I'm not that far into the book so here is my prediction. I think that something drastic may have happened to Annabel but no one would listen to her side of the story or she never told anyone in fear of people denying her. That's why the book is called Just Listen; she wants people to know her side of things but it's never the right time. I'm pretty sure that this incident involved a boy because in the lunch scene, a boy walks in the lunchroom and she is intimidated. It may have been that specific boy or she's just scared by them in general.

In the back summary of the book I learn that her sister is diagnosed with anorexia. Since it's Annabel who is the main character and not her sister, I think that the struggle her family is going through with her sister's eating disorder is causing her to not be able to talk to her parents. They're really worried about the sister that they may not have time for her.

  1. I mostly likely would of have the same prediction of where people won't hear her side of the story or it could be something completely different. I see an iPod in the picture. It could possibly have to do with music or may she uses that as a pain reliever. Amazing blog post!
